EDC/PREPARED is run by John Patrick. John is a father of four, engineer, amateur radio operator, photographer, National Park fanatic, Eagle Scout, current Scouter (Assistant Scoutmaster) of two Troops, and resident of Florida. John’s first real exposure to EDC was his trusty Leatherman Micra, one of which he still carries to this day.
As an avid outdoors-man, John is always looking for the best EDC for his needs, be it work or play. As a Florida resident, being prepared for disasters for his family and home is a constant concern, one that matches his Scouting background. When hurricanes Irma and Marie hit and threatened his home in Florida in 2017, he realized that he needed to step it up to be ready for the next emergency. It was while researching many different EDC and emergency preparedness items, and then buying them and having different opinions, that he decided to start this site. As an Eagle Scout and current Scouter (adult volunteer within the Scouting movement), being prepared is something that has been ingrained into his thought process.
After being hit by Hurricane Ian in 2022, it showed that his emergency preparedness was well-founded, but could stand to be updated. Nothing like experiencing a category 4 hurricane to help find your flaws!
John is joined by his eldest son, Chris, who is involved in Scouting as well, and will provide reviews from his own experience camping, hiking, and high adventure.
