When it comes to having your car or vehicle prepared, it’s more than just regular maintenance, it’s having with you what you need to handle an emergency if one were to arise. Here is part three of few lists for car preparedness for emergencies. Missing part two? Check it out here!
Including the Kitchen Sink?
I prep my car based on what my travel plans are. Everyday commute and driving around the local area, I’ve got my first aid kit, tire kit, battery kit, and the fluids kit except for the gas can, since I’m always no more than 5 miles from a station.
Being Prepared for Getting Home:
Civil unrest. Martial law. Zombie apocalypse. Mass power-outage and all roads are closed. Whatever the reason, you’re not at home and you can no longer safely drive home. Not only that, but no one can safely get you as well. Many people who prepare for emergencies call this the GHB: Get Home Bag.
- Bag
- Spare clothing
- Small Flashlight
- Knife
- Water container like this Platypus softbottle that is compacted small when not filled!
- Water or water purifier like these Katadyn Micropur tablets – No real aftertaste!
- Sillcock key – If you’re in an urban environment, odds are you’ll come across external faucets that you can’t get water from without the right tool. THIS is the right tool. Warning, some water may not be potable. Check for signs around the spigot first!
- Food
- Tarp/ground cover
And make sure you grab these items from the previous list of what to keep in your car:
- First aid kit – The entire kit. Just bring it.
- Emergency blanket
- Gloves
This is a great kit for car preparedness for emergencies of all sorts, for when you need to abandon your car and “get home no matter what.”
